Djokovic withdraws from Australian Open semifinal against Zverev due to injury
Legendary Novak Djokovic has prematurely ended his campaign at the 2025 Australian Open.
Details: The Serbian tennis star was unable to finish his semifinal match against Germany’s Alexander Zverev due to injury.
The players completed the first set, which Zverev won in a tiebreak, 7-5. However, Djokovic announced afterward that he could not continue, citing a muscle tear.
Quote:
"If I had taken the first set, maybe I would have tried to play a few more games. I don’t know, it kept getting worse... It’s a muscle tear. Two years ago, I handled it better, and it didn’t affect me as much. This time, it was the opposite. An unpleasant ending, but I gave it my best."
For Zverev, this marks his first career appearance in an Australian Open final. He has yet to win a Grand Slam title.
Reminder: In the other semifinal today, Jannik Sinner will face Ben Shelton.
