Some lines should never be crossed in football.

Details: An ugly episode unfolded during Al-Hilal's Saudi Pro League visit to Al-Taawoun. A section of the home support began chanting Diogo Jota's name at Rúben Neves, repeatedly shouting Jota! Jota! Jota! in the direction of the Portuguese midfielder.

Neves was visibly stunned by the provocation. According to the footage described in the original post, the Al-Hilal star pointed towards the sky before gesturing back at the supporters, making his message clear that his late friend could see the way they were behaving.

The incident came during a one-sided match on September 12. Al-Hilal demolished Al-Taawoun 6-0 away from home, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring a hat-trick and Ollie Watkins netting twice. Neves also made his mark on the game by providing the assist for Watkins' opening goal in the ninth minute.

The chants were particularly painful because Neves and Jota shared a very close friendship. The two Portuguese internationals were teammates at Wolverhampton, and Neves later served as a pallbearer at Jota's funeral after the forward and his brother André Silva died in a car crash in Spain in July 2025.

It is worth noting that Portugal later handed Jota's No. 21 national-team shirt to Neves as a tribute to the late forward. The Al-Hilal midfielder continues to wear that number for his country in memory of his close friend.
