Atlético Madrid have suffered a major setback just days before their crucial La Liga showdown against Barcelona! Argentine defender Cristian Romero will reportedly miss Sunday's clash, leaving Diego Simeone without one of his most important defensive players at a decisive moment in the title race.

Details: According to Marca, Romero is still struggling with a muscular problem and is not expected to recover in time for the November 8 encounter. The 28-year-old centre-back initially suffered an adductor injury during Atlético's match against Espanyol in October and has struggled to regain full fitness.

Romero returned to the squad against Levante on October 31 but remained on the bench throughout the match. He subsequently missed Atlético's Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich, with the coaching staff unwilling to risk aggravating his injury.

The Argentine's absence creates a serious selection headache for Simeone. Robin Le Normand and Dávid Hancko could continue as the central defensive partnership, having already played together against Bayern. However, containing Barcelona's dangerous attackers will present another demanding challenge.

Atlético host Barcelona at the Metropolitano on November 8 in a match with major implications for the Spanish title race. The Catalans are also dealing with an important injury absence after midfielder Rodri was ruled out. With both teams missing key players, Sunday's encounter promises to be particularly unpredictable.

Reminder: Atlético Madrid officially signed Cristian Romero from Tottenham in August 2026 on a contract until 2031.
