It is reported that Buffon's departure is linked to the recent defeat of the Azzurri by Bosnia and their failure to qualify for the World Cup.
The 48-year-old Buffon had held the coordinator role for the Italian national team since 2023, and was also part of head coach Gennaro Gattuso's staff after Gattuso took over the team.
Gianluigi Buffon made his debut for the Italian national team as a player back in 1997. He went on to play 176 matches for the Azzurri and won the World Cup in 2006.
Earlier, it became known that the president of the Italian Football Federation, Gabriele Gravina, had also stepped down from his post.
