Dillan Solomons rescues Kaizer Chiefs in the Caf Confederation Cup against Zamalek as his last minute goal earns Amakhosi their first point
Dillan Solomons salvaged Kaizer Chiefs’ Caf Confederation Cup campaign with a last minute goal to score his second goal in two matches.
What looked like a cross from Solomons was fumbled by the Zamalek goalkeeper ended up in the net to earn Amakhosi a point inside referees’ additional time at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
This goal salvaged Chiefs start to this competition having lost their first game last Sunday in Egypt against Al Masry.
Today they faced another Egyptian side in Zamalek but Amakhosi had a jittery start to this game as they conceded just inside five minutes.
Zitha Kwinika and Miguel Iniacio were not combining well as goalkeeper Brandon Peterson had to make few saves in the game to ensure the defensive pairing does not get exploited further.
Chiefs are now third in this group as Al Masry earned their second victory yesterday against Zesco United.
Al Masry have six points, Zamalek have four and Chiefs only a single point while Zambian side Zesco is yet to register a win or a draw.
Gaston Sirino and Bradley Cross left the field through injury in the first half and it is not clear for long they will be out for.
