Didn’t follow in his father’s footsteps: Vitali Klitschko’s son debuts for Ukraine in a different sport
Maxim Klitschko, the 19-year-old son of boxing legend Vitali Klitschko, has chosen a different path in sports—stepping onto the basketball court rather than the boxing ring. According to Sportowe Fakty, Maxim made his debut for the Ukrainian national team during a EuroBasket qualifying match against Portugal.
Standing at an impressive 218 cm, Klitschko has the ideal physique for basketball, and his debut performance reflected his potential. He contributed 7 points to Ukraine’s dominant 88-60 victory over Portugal. However, the win held no tournament significance, as Ukraine had already lost its chance to qualify for the European Championship following a previous 71-84 defeat to Slovenia.
Klitschko spent 9 minutes on the court, scoring 7 points and recording 2 rebounds.
At the club level, Maxim represents the youth team of AS Monaco.
His mother, singer and model Natalia Egorova—Vitali Klitschko’s former wife—was present in the stands, proudly watching her son’s national team debut.
