Benfica played their final match of the Portuguese league campaign against Braga, ending in a 1-1 draw. This fixture marked the last appearance for a true Benfica legend.

Details: Ángel Di María has played his final game in a Benfica shirt. He will not renew his contract with the Eagles and will depart the club at the end of the season as a free agent. The Argentine star will also miss the upcoming Club World Cup, which kicks off in mid-June.

In his farewell match, Ángel provided an assist as Benfica closed out the season with a 1-1 draw. The team missed out on the Portuguese league title—Sporting clinched their second consecutive championship by defeating Vitória Guimarães 2-0 at home.

Di María returned to Benfica as a free agent on July 5, 2023, having previously played for the club between 2007 and 2010. The Argentine also retired from international football in the summer of 2024.

Reminder: After his contract with Benfica ends, Di María intends to return to his boyhood club Rosario Central. He came close to making the move last summer, but ultimately declined due to safety concerns.
