Bayern Munich’s recent UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona turned into a difficult outing for Manuel Neuer, with the German goalkeeper conceding four goals and facing criticism from fans. However, Bayern remains satisfied with his performance, showing unwavering support despite the outcome.

Details: Neuer was among the least favored players in Bayern’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona. After three rounds, Bayern has just one victory and currently holds the 23rd spot in the standings.

During the Bundesliga pre-match press conference ahead of the Bochum fixture, Bayern's head coach Vincent Kompany and sporting director Christoph Freund both spoke positively about Neuer. Kompany emphasized that the Barcelona loss was a collective result, not solely Neuer’s responsibility. Freund echoed this sentiment, maintaining that Neuer’s quality remains indisputable and predicting that his performances will soon change the narrative.

Quotes: “We lost together. When we lose, it’s the entire team and the coaches, not just Manu. If he adjusts his game, it will only be to become even better. Criticism is part of this, but we hope for success against Bochum,” Kompany stated.

“He remains exceptional. We’re very glad he’s in goal for us. There will be many games where we’ll speak differently about our goalkeeper because he has won matches for us. We’re entirely confident in him,” Freund added.

Reminder: Neuer has been Bayern Munich’s mainstay in goal since 2011, appearing in 531 matches for the club.

While Bayern currently tops the Bundesliga, they are level on points with RB Leipzig. Neuer has allowed 14 goals across 11 matches this season.
