Desert Warriors’ Winning Streak Ends in Heat and Humidity of Malabo
The Algerian national team settled for a goalless draw against Equatorial Guinea, ending its streak of consecutive victories at 5 matches in various competitions.
Swiss coach Vladimir Petković attributed the challenging encounter to the extreme weather conditions in the host city. "The conditions were very difficult—high temperatures and humidity made the game complicated," he told Algerian radio. Temperatures reached 30°C with 85% humidity during the afternoon kickoff.
Despite the draw, Petković commended his players' efforts and highlighted the team’s confirmed top spot in the group. "I'm not here to find excuses, but I must be realistic. Equatorial Guinea is a strong side with decent capabilities," he added.
Algeria will wrap up their qualification campaign against Liberia on Sunday, November 17. The Desert Warriors have delivered an impressive performance under Petković, losing just one match while securing six wins and two draws in his tenure.
