Denmark loss to Czech Republic for a place in South Africa's Group A at the World Cup in June should excite Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos
Hugo Broos’ fears have been allayed.
The Bafana Bafana coach should be relieved Denmark did not make it to this year’s World Cup as they fell to Czech Republic last night in Prague.
Broos fell short of admitting Denmark are a level high than his Bafana but he was modest in saying he would opt for Czech to be in their group than the Scandinavians.
It’s a return of the Czech to the global showpiece after a 20-year absence and it was clinched in front of their home crowd at the Epet Arena.
But it was not an easy one as they needed penalties to secure their spot which means they join South Africa, South Korea and Mexico in Group A.
After the game ended 2-2 in regulation, the home team needed penalties, which they won 3-1, to seal the historic victory.
Czech will face South Africa in the second round of group stage matches after their opening game against host Mexico with South Korean match being the last of their group game.
