David Raya is the UEFA Champions League Player of the Day according to Dailysports
The third matchday of the newly formatted UEFA Champions League concluded on Thursday, September 19, with several exciting fixtures in the league stage. As part of tradition, the Dailysports team selected the "Player of the Day," and today, that honor goes to Arsenal's goalkeeper, David Raya.
Arsenal was held to a 0-0 draw away against Atalanta, and if not for the heroic efforts of the Spanish keeper, the "Gunners" could have easily lost the match.
Raya made a number of exceptional saves, and early in the second half, the former Brentford goalkeeper produced a stunning double save from a penalty taken by Matteo Retegui. Raya parried Retegui's initial shot, and when the Italian striker followed up with a header, Raya miraculously saved that as well.
According to advanced statistics, the chances of Raya making such a save were just 3%.
Arsenal's next opponent in the Champions League will be PSG.
