Darwin Núñez Was Gucci – Gyökeres Is Primark, Says Benfica Legend

As Sporting fans push the narrative that Viktor Gyökeres should command a transfer fee similar to Darwin Núñez’s, former Benfica captain Diamantino Miranda has poured cold water on the idea with a now-viral remark.
Speaking to CMTV, Miranda quipped: “One thing is shopping at Gucci. Another is shopping at Primark. That’s life.” The comment, highlighted by Bancada, was aimed at the belief that Sporting can match Benfica’s €85 million Darwin deal with just one player.
Miranda added that Sporting would “need to sell three or four at once” to reach that figure. Darwin’s transfer to Liverpool included €75 million upfront, plus bonuses. His 48 goals in 85 games for Benfica — and a standout Champions League run — justified the price tag.
While Gyökeres is enjoying a stellar campaign in Lisbon, critics argue he lacks the European pedigree that boosted Darwin’s market value. For Miranda, blockbuster sales like Darwin’s are rare and not easily replicated, especially not in “bulk packaging.”
