Cricket star Shan Masood shares how a rival helped him cope with personal loss
Pakistan cricket captain Shan Masood has opened up about how a gesture of support from a rival team member helped him deal with the grief of losing his sister. According to Dailymail, Masood revealed that England captain Ben Stokes provided him with comforting words after the T20 World Cup final in Melbourne in 2022.
"I spoke to him about grief. He’s been through a lot on a personal level. He lost his father, and I lost my sister around the same time. I asked him how he channeled his grief on the field, and it was very heartening," Masood said.
Stokes himself has endured his share of personal struggles. In late October, masked burglars broke into his Durham home during the night while his wife and children were sleeping. Thankfully, no one was harmed, but the thieves stole several meaningful items, including Stokes’ Order of the British Empire medal, awarded to him in 2020.
Masood was appointed vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team in January 2023 and later promoted to full captain in November the same year.
