Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui, thanks to his prolific scoring record, became a prime target for top clubs—yet the race for his signature was surprisingly won by an unexpected contender.
Details: According to Sportitalia’s chief editor Michele Criscitiello, “La Dea” has sold the striker to Saudi side Al-Qadsiah for a whopping €70 million. While the personal terms of the Italian’s stay in the Middle East remain undisclosed, it’s clear he won’t be short on financial rewards there.
Recall: Even such a fee isn’t a record in Atalanta’s transfer history. The club’s most lucrative outgoing deal came two years ago, when they sold Rasmus Højlund to Manchester United for €77.8 million.
Retegui moved to Atalanta less than a year ago, joining from Genoa for €21 million. The 25-year-old striker finished the season as Serie A’s top scorer, netting 25 goals and providing 8 assists.
