Ukraine suffered a devastating 0-3 loss to Romania in their first match of the European Championship.
According to Defensa Central, goalkeeper Andriy Lunin received one of the lowest ratings for the Ukrainian team. However, his teammate Thibaut Courtois and coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed their support. Courtois personally called Lunin to offer strong encouragement, noting that "such things happen to everyone." Carlo Ancelotti sent a message with words of support to Lunin as well. Players like David Alaba and Dani Carvajal also showed solidarity with Andriy.
It's worth noting that this defeat marked Ukraine's largest margin of loss in their history at the group stage of the European Championships. Ukraine is participating in their fourth European Championship, and previously had never lost in the group stage by more than 0-2: against France in 2012, Germany, and Northern Ireland in 2016.
In the second round of Euro 2024, Ukraine will face Slovakia on Friday, June 21st.
