A major legal turnaround has unfolded in the case of former France and Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder.

Details: According to L'Equipe, the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal on Thursday overturned the decision to refer the footballer and his brother Sabri to a jury trial on charges of rape and attempted rape. The court ruled to halt prosecution against the player, effectively nullifying the lower court's ruling from November last year.

The footballer's lawyers, as well as his brother's, expressed deep satisfaction and relief at the decision. The defense insisted that the previous decision to send the case to criminal court was based on a misinterpretation of the case materials. Despite the demands of the public prosecutor and civil plaintiffs' lawyers to uphold the charges, the higher court sided with the defense, finding their arguments convincing both factually and legally.

It is worth noting that in January 2026, the Frenchman signed a six-month contract with Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca. At the moment, his new team sits second in the league, and Wissam has already made five appearances and scored once.

Reminder: Zinedine Zidane will take charge of the France national team after the 2026 World Cup.
