Controversy Swirls Over CAF Awards 2024: Where is Mohamed Salah?
Ahead of the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony, which will be held in Morocco next December, there have been discussions about the exclusion of Egyptian Mohamed Salah from the list of the top ten candidates for the African Player of the Year award, as Salah was absent from the competition for this prestigious award for the first time since 2017.
Salah, a two-time winner of the award in 2017 and 2018, has consistently placed in the top three in recent years, including 2019, 2022, and 2023, with the exception of the canceled 2020 and 2021 editions due to the pandemic.
With the CAF Awards covering performances from January to October 2024, Salah’s impressive statistics 21 goals and 16 assists in 40 matches for Liverpool and Egypt have left many wondering if his exclusion was fair.
The list of final five nominees includes top talents like Achraf Hakimi and Ademola Lookman, but many still question whether Salah should have made the cut.
