Last night in Anaheim, a suburb of Los Angeles, a highly anticipated boxing event took place. The main event featured a light heavyweight bout between former UFC superstars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal.
The fighters had previously met in the octagon, with Masvidal emerging victorious due to a severe cut sustained by Diaz.
Ahead of the bout, legendary UFC fighter Conor McGregor publicly placed a $500,000 bet on Diaz to win the fight.
"I decided to bet $500,000 on Diaz to win tonight's boxing match.
Range, form, experience, the use of hands exclusively – I don’t see any reason why Masvidal would cause any problems for Nate in the ring.
They both are scrappy fighters, playing around. But I feel that Nate will handle him easily. $500,000 will bring me back $1.625 million."
Interestingly, McGregor himself faced Diaz in 2016 and was defeated. However, the Irishman avenged his loss just five months later.
In last night's bout, Diaz defeated Masvidal by majority decision (95-95, 97-93, and 98-92).
As a result, Conor McGregor pocketed $1.625 million from his bet, thanks to his former rival's victory.
Additionally, another boxing event featuring two title fights took place in the USA last night.
