Conor Gallagher made history in the Madrid derby among English footballers
Atletico Madrid is hosting the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 against Real Madrid. The hosts quickly opened the score, and the goal scorer made history.
Details: Midfielder Conor Gallagher scored this goal, and as reported by Opta, he became the first English footballer in the history of the Madrid derby to score a goal, regardless of the tournament.
Additionally, we already wrote that Gallagher's goal became the earliest in UEFA Champions League history for Atletico, breaking the record set by Koke, who scored against Monaco in the 89th second in November 2018.
This is also the fastest goal scored by an English footballer in UEFA Champions League history.
Before the game, it became known that Kylian Mbappe would be in the starting lineup. It was previously reported that the Frenchman missed training due to muscle discomfort.
Reminder: Our team has prepared for you all possible pairings for the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 quarter-finals.
