After a brief stint with Esteghlal FC in Iran, Gaël Kakuta has returned to Europe with a signing with Sakaryaspor.
The 33-year-old midfielder only managed one assist and zero goals in 13 league games, failing to create an impression in Iran. In January, Esteghlal's contract was terminated by both parties due to his poor performance in 11th place.
Kakuta now joins Sakaryaspor, which is presently ranked 18th in Turkey's second tier, with the goal of preventing relegation. After playing in France, England, Spain, the Netherlands, China, Italy, and Iran, this is his eighth country and 15th club in his career.
With 23 caps and three goals for DR Congo, Kakuta brings valuable experience. Sakaryaspor fans hope his technical skills and vision will boost the team’s survival hopes. At 33, this could be one of the final chapters of his career.
