Stellenbosch FC’s hopes of salvaging their Caf Confederation Cup run were dashed in Congo-Brazzaville when they were beaten 3-0 by AS Otoho.

Gavin Hunt’s men conceded away from home with no response while Hunt had rung changes in the starting line-up with Oscarine Masuluke replacing Sage Stephens in goals.

Stellies only had Wayde Jooste, Ibraheem Jabar and Kaze Enyinnaya as the only surviving players from the win against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday.

Pomi Nzaou and Klegnime Kone –scored a brace – netted the goals for the home side which condemned Stellies to the fourth place with four points in their group.

Otoho are on top with nine points and Algeria’s CR Belouizdad are second with nine as well while both Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars and Stellenbosch are on four on third and fourth spots respectively.

Stellies can only reach seven points should they win their last game which will not be enough to earn a place in the knockout stages.

The Cape Winelands club should now focus on the Nedbank Cup and surviving the dreaded PSL drop as those are now their realistic opportunities for a memorable season.
