Confirmed. Portuguese top club sack coach being wooed to French grandee
Portuguese specialist Sergio Conceição has today terminated his duties as Porto head coach, as informed by the club's press service.
The reasons for the parting are not disclosed, but the Dragons made this decision despite the recently extended contract of the 49-year-old coach with Porto until the summer of 2029. However, it was the decision of the club's previous president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who lost the presidential election to former Chelsea, Porto and Tottenham coach André Villas-Boas a few days afterwards.
It is worth recalling that Porto in the last season of the Portuguese championship finished in third place, losing to vice-champion Benfica 10 points, and the champion Sporting - as much as 18. But, the Dragons won the Portuguese Cup on 26 May, beating Ruben Amorim's team in the final match.
Conceição has coached Porto since the summer of 2017. Under his leadership, the Dragons became Portuguese champions three times and won the Portuguese Cup four times.
