CONCACAF President Backs León After Club World Cup Exclusion
The controversial decision by FIFA to exclude Club León from the 2025 Club World Cup continues to spark reactions. As the Mexican club prepares its appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the president of CONCACAF, Víctor Montagliani, expressed his public support for La Fiera, stating that "they won the Concachampions and deserve to be" in the tournament.
Montagliani considered the Mexican team's claim to be a legitimate legal process, as reported by TUDN and echoed by Bolavip:
"Grupo Pachuca has the option to go to CAS if they want. As the president of CONCACAF, I support León because they won on the field."
He also expressed hope that the decision will be overturned:
"We hope that at the end of the process, León will be allowed to play in the Club World Cup. They have our support 100%."
Grupo Pachuca, meanwhile, will present an appeal arguing that the rule change cannot be applied retroactively, as the team secured their qualification before the modification.
