Clement Mzize's Brace Propels Young Africans to Within a Point of Simba in the Mainland Tanzania Premier League Race
Young Africans (Yanga) tightened the fight for the top place in the Mainland Tanzania Premier League after defeating Dodoma Jiji FC 4-0 at Jamhuri Stadium. The defending champions are currently only one point behind rivals Simba, who lead with 37 points after a brace from Clement Mzize and goals from Stephane Aziz Ki and Prince Dube.
The match started in Yanga’s favor, with Mzize scoring in the 19th minute off a well-executed corner by Pacome Zouzoua. Aziz Ki doubled the lead in the 29th minute, converting a penalty after Dodoma Jiji’s goalkeeper Mohammed Hussein fouled Prince Dube. Mzize netted his second goal in the 37th minute following an error from Hussein, while Dube wrapped up the victory in the 62nd minute after being set up by Mudathir Yahya.
The result brings Yanga’s tally to 36 points from 14 matches, just one point behind Simba, who have 37 points. Dodoma Jiji FC remains in 12th place with 16 points from 15 games.
In a separate match, Namungo FC defeated Fountain Gate FC 2-1, with Pius Buswita and Geoffrey Luzendaze scoring for Namungo, lifting them to 17 points. Fountain Gate FC stays in sixth with 20 points.
