Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi laments the departure of Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali who he says is a 'super keeper' from the PSL side
Vusumuzi Vilakazi has described Stanley Nwabali as a ‘super keeper’ and that losing him is a big blow for Chippa United.
Vilakazi lamented the departure of the Nigerian goal-minder after his heroics in Morocco where helped the Super Eagles win the bronze medal in the Africa Cup of Nations last month.
“It is definitely a blow for us, looking at how Stanley did in Morocco,” said Vilakazi of Nwabali's contract termination with the side which was announced on Thursday morning.
“He’s a super keeper, but obviously with his decisions and whatsoever, I’m not involved in that. It was a discussion between him and chairman.”
Vilakazi is right.
Looking at the fact that Chippa have been languishing in the bottom half of the PSL table and the lanky goal-minder doing well for Nigeria, it would have given them confidence upon his return to the PSL.
But the coach said how the contract negotiations are handled does not fall into his job description, it’s something done by chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi.
“But they have agreed. I can only work with people who are in the system. But if there’s a need for us to look another goalkeeper so that the competition can be high, we will do so.”
In Nwabali’s absence, Vilakazi has played Dumisani Msibi in goals and the deputy goalminder has not drawn positives for his displays.
Last night they lost 3-2 to Durban City on penalties in the Nedbank Cup.
