Chicharito ready for new season: “This jersey demands more than any other”
According to Mediotiempo, with the Apertura 2025 just around the corner, Javier "Chicharito" Hernández is determined to turn the page on last season's disappointment, when Chivas failed to even reach the play-in round. The Mexican striker acknowledged their shortcomings but emphasized the team is working hard to bring Guadalajara back to the top.
“At Chivas, the standard is always the highest. This striped jersey is different from the rest,” he said in an interview with Chivas TV. For Hernández, every game counts, even friendlies, and the expectations remain the same.
Speaking about the arrival of Efraín Álvarez, Chicharito praised the young player’s development. “I knew him when he was basically a kid. He’s matured a lot, and I think his time with the Galaxy and later in Tijuana helped. He’s coming in ready to handle the daily pressure this jersey brings.”
Hernández also addressed his injury history, which has limited his time on the field since rejoining Chivas. Now fully recovered, he expressed confidence heading into preseason. “I just turned 37, and being able to go through preseason alongside my teammates without any issues gives me peace of mind and motivation to push harder.”
As for new head coach Gabriel Milito, Chicharito welcomed his arrival and said the squad is fully behind him. “We’re all in. We want to control the ball, be proactive, and win at all costs. What we want is to make winning a habit again, not a surprise.”
