As reported, the London club's management has already requested the necessary information about the 34-year-old forward, and Brighton are aware of the Blues' interest. Negotiations are currently at an early stage, but both sides remain optimistic about a potential deal.
Welbeck's contract with Brighton runs until the summer of 2027, so the club is under no obligation to let go of one of their most experienced players.
It's noted that new head coach Xabi Alonso is attracted not only by the English striker's on-field abilities, but also by his leadership qualities, which could be invaluable for Chelsea's reshaping squad.
Last season, Welbeck played 40 matches for Brighton, scoring 14 goals and providing 2 assists. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is estimated at 3 million euros.
