Chelsea is set to prolong the contract with the flank defender Ian Maatsen, as reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

According to sources, the Dutch footballer will ink a two-year deal with the "Blues." The agreement is slated to run until June 2027 and will incorporate a clause regarding buyout terms, set to take effect from the summer of 2024.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, journalist Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Borussia had forwarded a proposal to London for the loan of Ian Maatsen. The player himself is open to continuing his career in Germany and moving to Dortmund. Currently, this deal is in its final stages, with Borussia aiming to finalize all details by the end of this week.

Maatsen joined Chelsea's academy in 2018. He made his debut for the first team in September 2019 during a League Cup match against Grimsby Town. Subsequently, in pursuit of consistent playing time and experience, Maatsen was sent out on various loan spells.

Incidentally, the footballer has featured in 15 matches for Chelsea in the current season, yet has not registered any noteworthy contributions.
