A Chelsea defender is close to completing a transfer to Borussia Dortmund

Chelsea's full-back Ian Maatsen is close to making a move to the Bundesliga, as reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Borussia Dortmund has submitted an offer to Chelsea for the loan of the Dutch footballer. Maatsen himself is open to continuing his career in Germany and moving to Dortmund. The deal is now in its final stages, and Borussia Dortmund aims to finalize everything by the end of this week.

Ian Maatsen came through the ranks of Rotterdam football, playing for the youth teams of Feyenoord and Sparta. In 2018, he joined Chelsea's academy. He made his first-team debut in September 2019 in a League Cup match against Grimsby Town. Since then, without a regular place in the starting lineup and for gaining more playing time, Maatsen has been sent out on various loan spells.

For the record, Maatsen has played 15 matches for Chelsea in the current season without registering any goals or assists.
