Chelsea to attempt signing Aston Villa midfielder Edson Alvarez in summer

London's Chelsea will look to bolster their midfield this summer. Media reports link the "Pensioners" with an interest in Aston Villa midfielder Edson Alvarez.

Details. According to caughtoffside, Chelsea may make another attempt to acquire the "Hammers" midfielder this summer. The "Blues" have been tracking the Mexican since his Ajax days, and he remains on their shortlist.

Alvarez is a key player for West Ham, so he's unlikely to be someone they'll part with too eagerly, at least not for a small fee.

This season, the 27-year-old Mexican has played 26 matches for the "Hammers", recording one assist.

Reminder. It was previously reported that Chelsea is preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer to ease their wage bill. Up to 14 players could leave the London club.
