Details: Midfielder Jordan Henderson was so caught up in the euphoria after his team's triumph that he accidentally collided with an advertising board. The incident escalated quickly, forcing the experienced midfielder to be stretchered off the pitch with a serious wrist injury.
England head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed to The Athletic after the match that Henderson is in hospital. According to the manager, the injury looks very serious, and the next steps are still unclear.
Tuchel admitted that Jordan's injury was a grim episode on an otherwise victorious night against Mexico.
Nothing good. Jordan simply fell and injured his wrist. It looks really bad. I'm saddened because Jordan has hurt his wrist, and it’s quite serious. He's in hospital. This incident absolutely doesn't fit the mood of the evening. I don’t yet know what the next steps will be," said Thomas Tuchel.
It's worth noting that 36-year-old Jordan Henderson has only played 6 minutes in this World Cup, coming off the bench late in the match against Panama.
