Carreas could play for Benfica at the Club World Cup despite Real Madrid interest

Benfica defender Álvaro Carreas is on the verge of a move to Real Madrid, but the Portuguese giants are not ready to let him go without a fight.
Details: According to The Athletic, the Eagles want the Spaniard to feature for their side at the Club World Cup. That scenario appears likely, as Madrid have yet to reach an agreement with Benfica for Carreas to return to his former club before the tournament kicks off in the United States.
There is also no deal in place for the transfer as a whole, with negotiations between the clubs still ongoing. Carreas is Real Madrid’s top target for the left-back position this summer, although Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer are also on their radar.
Reminder: Earlier reports suggested that Madrid would pay around €50 million for Carreas, with the Spanish defender expected to sign a five-year contract.
