The Champions League is undoubtedly the world's most popular and profitable club tournament, even though it's only contested by European clubs under UEFA's jurisdiction. And Jamie Carragher believes this is a major headache for FIFA.

Details: The former Liverpool defender stated that the Club World Cup was created solely to generate extra revenue, with little regard for players or clubs. He added that, with so much football already on the calendar, fans hardly have any appetite left for another tournament after a packed club season.

Quote: "There's something about the Club World Cup that makes me feel it was created by FIFA not so much to compete with the Champions League, but rather with no thought for the players or clubs.

It's as if FIFA is thinking: 'Well, we only hold the World Cup every four years, but UEFA or Europe have the Champions League. They've got incredible money and financial rewards, and they stage it annually, while we have to wait four years for our World Cup.' They're just trying to create something, but I don't think players, clubs, or even fans are hungry for it.

I don't think players and managers want to be there. It's a very sad situation for a new tournament. When will they get any rest? We're now talking about players who will only get a summer off once every four years. That's just not right," Carragher told The Athletic.
