With celebrations over the Ballon d'Or still fresh, some may have overlooked that Rodri is injured — and potentially for a lengthy period. Many argue that Manchester City will struggle without their Spanish midfielder and need to arrange for at least a temporary replacement.

Details: Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher shares this view, suggesting that if City intends to stay on course to meet their objectives, Pep Guardiola will need more than Mateo Kovacic and İlkay Gündoğan to cover Rodri's absence.

Quote: "Looking at central midfield, they’re currently missing the best player in the world in that position — Rodri. Kovacic and Gündoğan, both in their 30s, showed some limitations over the weekend against a very energetic Bournemouth side, which deservedly won.

I think it’ll be fascinating to see if Manchester City returns to the market in January. I’m not sure that these two alone can keep City on track to reach their goals if they’re left in midfield until the end of the season."

Reminder: Carragher previously highlighted why Liverpool refrained from bringing in Rúben Amorim last season.
