Carlos Tévez Tipped to Replace Martín Palermo at Olimpia
Carlos Tévez could be set for a return to management after nearly a year away from the touchline. According to Minuto NQN, the former Argentine international is the leading candidate to replace Martín Palermo at Olimpia, following the latter’s departure after a heavy Copa Libertadores loss to Vélez. Journalist Federico Arias of La Gran Jugada reported that the Paraguayan club plans to reach out to Tevez in the coming days to explore the possibility of his appointment.
Tevez began his coaching career at Rosario Central in 2022 but stepped down after just a few months due to internal disagreements. His latest job was with Independiente, where he helped the club avoid relegation before resigning in May 2024. Since then, the former Boca and Manchester City star has remained inactive, but now appears poised to return to a high-profile role on the continent.
In the interim, Olimpia have placed former club icon Aureliano Torres in charge of the first team. The Paraguayan side is scheduled to host Sportivo Ameliano on Sunday, April 13, as part of Matchday 13 in the Apertura tournament. Other names reportedly under consideration include Andrés San Martín, Julio César Cáceres, and Diego Alonso.
Following a 3-0 loss to Vélez in the Copa Libertadores, Olimpia and Palermo parted ways by mutual consent. The club published an emotional farewell message, thanking him for helping secure the team’s 47th title. Now, the board is actively searching for a new leader to guide the team through the remainder of the season.
