The Portuguese tactician will lead the Black Stars at this summer’s World Cup.

Carlos Queiroz’s appointment was made official this Monday 13 April 2026 by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The 73-year-old Portuguese takes over from Otto Addo, who was sacked a few weeks ago. The Black Stars’ new manager will lead the team during the World Cup, which kicks off on 11 June.

Ghana’s football governing body is banking on Queiroz’s experience. The 73-year-old tactician brings with him many years of experience as a coach of both club and national teams. The Portuguese coach previously managed the South African national team, which he led to qualification for the 2002 World Cup. He also managed the Portuguese national team, reaching the knockout stages of the 2010 World Cup. Carlos Queiroz has also managed Iran, Egypt, Oman, Japan and Qatar.
