“Calm down and shut up!” Mourinho mocks Vinicius verdict after Real Madrid appeal
José Mourinho has turned Vinicius Junior’s four-match suspension into another direct attack on the way the case has been handled.
Details: Speaking after Real Madrid’s appeal was rejected, the Portuguese coach reacted with heavy sarcasm.
“I thought that after Real Madrid appealed, the people hiding behind the scenes would add another one or two matches to his suspension!” Mourinho said.
Mourinho then pushed the point even further, describing what he believed the message from the authorities sounded like:
“As if to say: ‘Hey, calm down and shut up! You’ve already got four matches, so don’t say anything more!’”
The RFEF Appeals Committee has rejected Real Madrid’s appeal and upheld the full four-match sanction. Vinicius received two matches for pulling Nathan Saliba’s hair during the victory over Villarreal and another two for his protests towards referee Isidro Díaz de Mera after being sent off.
As a result, the Brazilian is set to miss the LaLiga matches against Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing Santander and Valencia, including El Clásico. The suspension applies only to domestic league competition, so Vinicius remains available for Real Madrid in the Champions League. It is worth noting that he has made 10 appearances across LaLiga and the Champions League this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
