Kawempe Muslim Ladies caused a sensation on Monday 2 November by defeating FAR Rabat 3-2 on Matchday 1 of Group B. In their very first appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League, the Ugandans pulled off a remarkable feat against the reigning champions.

The match had, however, got off to an ideal start for the Moroccans. At the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Fatima Tagnaout opened the scoring in the 6th minute. FAR Rabat then held onto their lead until half-time.

But after the break, Kawempe Muslim Ladies completely turned the match on its head. Agnes Nabukenya first levelled the score in the 52nd minute, before Shakira Nyanagahirwa put the Ugandans ahead six minutes later (58th).

FAR Rabat, however, were quick to respond. Doha El Madani converted a penalty in the 69th minute to level the score at 2-2. Just as the Moroccans thought they could hold on for a draw, Agnes Nabukenya struck in stoppage time.

In the 90+3rd minute, she scored her second goal of the evening to secure a historic victory for Kawempe Muslim Ladies.
