CAF sanctions Samuel Eto'o: FECAFOOT acknowledges the Disciplinary Committee's response but expresses concerns
According to FECAFOOT, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the deadline for filing an appeal will only begin once the reasons for the decision against Samuel Eto'o have been notified. The Federation says it welcomes this procedural clarification.
‘The Cameroonian Football Federation takes note of the response sent today by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football, confirming that the deadline for filing an appeal will only begin once the reasons for the decision against its President, Mr Samuel Eto'o Fils, have been notified. This procedural clarification is welcome,’ the statement said.
The Federation nevertheless expressed its surprise at the contrast observed. " However, FECAFOOT is surprised by the contrast between the speed with which the sanction was handed down – less than two hours after the hearing – and the prolonged, even indefinite, delays in communicating the reasons for a decision that affects the reputation and honour of the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation in the exercise of his duties."
Fecafoot also pointed out that this type of delay is not unprecedented, citing a previous disciplinary case that took more than nine months before the full details of the proceedings were communicated.
Reaffirming its commitment to fair proceedings, Fecafoot assures that it will remain vigilant with regard to the observance of reasonable time limits and the effectiveness of appeals, in the name of the credibility of sports governance in Africa and around the world.
