CAF CHAN 2024 Qualifiers: Malawi Prepares for Tough Test Against Comoros

The draw for the second qualifying stage of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 took place in Cairo on February 13. Seven teams will battle for the final two spots in the tournament, which will be hosted in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in August 2025.
First-round matches:
- Comoros vs Malawi
- South Africa vs Egypt
- The Gambia vs Gabon
The winners of Comoros vs Malawi and South Africa vs Egypt will face off in the second round, with the victor securing a place in the CHAN finals. Meanwhile, the winner of the Gambia vs Gabon will take on Algeria, who received a bye due to their strong past performances.
Qualifier dates:
- First round: 1st leg (Feb 28–Mar 2), 2nd leg (Mar 7-9)
- Second round: 1st leg (May 2-4), 2nd leg (May 9-11)
Malawi coach Kalisto Pasuwa acknowledged the challenge ahead, especially with local clubs still in preseason. "Comoros have improved a lot technically and tactically, so we must prepare well to get the result we need," he said.
The CHAN finals will feature 19 teams, with the final two qualifiers joining Group C, alongside Uganda, Niger, and Guinea.
