CAF Champions League: Petro Luanda overturn Scottland FC to secure their place in the group stage
Having lost 2–0 in the first leg, Petro Luanda staged a spectacular comeback by beating Scottland FC 3–0 on Friday 23 October in the second-leg tie of the second preliminary round.
Spurred on by their home crowd, the Angolan side showed their intent from the first half, opening the scoring before half-time through Ruben Aderito’s 18th-minute goal. Despite this early goal, Petro Luanda still needed to score once more to make up for the deficit from the first leg.
After the break, the home side continued their efforts and eventually made the difference. Jorge Pereira doubled the lead in the 67th minute, completely turning the tie around. With five minutes remaining, the third goal, scored by Pedro Aparicio in the 85th minute, sealed the victory for the Angolans.
Winning 3–2 on aggregate, Petro Luanda thus made up for their first-leg defeat and secured their place in the group stage of the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League.
