CAF Champions League: Finidi George Blames Defensive Errors for Rivers United’s Loss to Pyramids FC
Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has pinpointed defensive mistakes as the key reason behind his team’s 3-0 defeat to Pyramids FC in their CAF Champions League opener in Cairo on Saturday night.
The Port Harcourt club struggled to contain the defending champions, conceding three goals that put the contest out of reach. Despite the disappointing result, Finidi noted that his players worked hard throughout the match.
“We played well but the final touch was not there,” Finidi said after the game.
He added that an early second-half error shifted the momentum completely.
“We did well in the first half and in the second half, their first goal was a mistake from our defender. If you allow a team like this to score, they will gain momentum, and from that they got their second goal, and from there the game was over.”
Looking ahead, Rivers United will return home to face Moroccan side RS Berkane in their second group match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
