CAF Applauds Morocco for Winning 2030 World Cup Hosting Rights
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), congratulated Morocco for securing the rights to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal during the FIFA Extraordinary Congress on Wednesday.
The 2030 World Cup will feature 48 teams and will kick off with centennial matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, while Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will unite to host the global tournament.
Motsepe called the partnership between Morocco, Spain, and Portugal an example of how Africa and Europe can work together to improve the world and said it reflected togetherness through football. He declared, "Today is a proud day for African football, as Morocco becomes the second African nation to host the World Cup in FIFA's history."
He expressed gratitude to King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan government, and its people for their initiative and support of the bid, praising Morocco’s leadership in the process. Motsepe also thanked FIFA President Gianni Infantino and FIFA’s 211 members for granting the shared hosting rights.
In recognition of the long-standing partnership between CAF and the Saudi Football Federation, CAF today congratulated Saudi Arabia on securing the right to host the 2034 World Cup.
