Sudan will face defending champions Senegal in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations after losing 2-0 to Burkina Faso in their final Group E match. Lassina Traore struck early in Casablanca to put Burkina Faso ahead, and Sudan missed a chance to level when Algozoli Nooh sent a first-half penalty wide.
Both teams had already qualified for the knockout stage behind group leaders Algeria, with Burkina Faso only needing to avoid defeat to finish second. Despite suffering a second loss in three matches, Sudan progressed as one of the best third-placed sides and now prepare for a daunting meeting with Sadio Mane’s Senegal in Tangier.
Their progress is seen as a major achievement amid Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
