Bridgerweight Champion Challenges Jake Paul to Title Fight
WBC bridgerweight champion Kevin Lerena has called out Jake Paul for a title bout following the YouTube star’s victory over 58-year-old boxing legend Mike Tyson.
Quote: “Listen, the fight between Tyson and Paul was phenomenal. Obviously, it didn’t live up to all the hype, but we all need to step outside the bubble and consider if it ever truly could. Iron Mike [Tyson] is 58, while Jake Paul is in his prime.
It was a clear mismatch in terms of youth versus experience, but as an event, it was brilliant. I tuned in to watch, and I think credit must go to Jake for making people sit down and watch boxing again. That’s what it’s all about.
I want to fight Jake Paul and am ready to meet and discuss it. This would be the biggest payday of my career—I won’t even try to hide that. We’re similar in a way; I didn’t have an amateur boxing career, so he’ll have a good chance. Jake could fight a world champion for the title,” Lerena told BoxingScene.
Background: Jake Paul secured a unanimous decision victory over Tyson, with judges scoring the bout 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73. For Tyson, it marked his first official fight since 2005. The bout carried professional status and was recorded in both fighters’ official records.
Lerena last stepped into the ring in March 2024, suffering a defeat to Australia’s Justis Huni. However, six months later, Lerena was crowned WBC bridgerweight champion after Lawrence Okolie vacated the belt.
