Brentford player Yoane Wissa suing woman who attacked him with acid
Brentford footballer Yoane Wissa is set to appear in court as part of a case against a woman who attacked him with acid and attempted to kidnap his newborn daughter, reports The Sun.
The incident occurred in France in 2021, while Wissa was playing for French club Lorient. The attack left the player at risk of losing his eyesight, requiring surgery to save his vision.
"Yoane is still suffering the after-effects of this attempted kidnap and attack. He has done everything since then to show that he is fine. And nowadays he and his wife feel secure in England. They feel they are safe from danger. Thankfully he did not lose his eyesight, and it was only thanks to his reaction that his daughter was not taken away," said Wissa's lawyer, Karim Morand-Lahouazi.
The trial began on Tuesday and will last four days. Wissa was absent on the first day of hearings but is expected to attend the subsequent sessions.
The attacker, identified as 36-year-old Laetitia P., allegedly carried out the assault and, the following day, attacked another woman, successfully kidnapping her child.
If convicted, the suspect faces up to 30 years in prison on charges of attempted murder, child abduction, and attempted kidnapping.
