BREAKING: Levante vs Athletic Club postponed!
The weather has brought La Liga football in Valencia to a complete halt.
Details: The La Liga Matchday 6 clash between Levante and Athletic Club, scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Ciutat de València, has been postponed because of torrential rain in Valencia. A powerful storm hit the area shortly before the scheduled 21:30 local kick-off, rapidly worsening conditions inside and around the stadium.
The players had initially completed their warm-ups as normal, but the intensity of the downpour soon made the playing surface unsuitable for football. Large amounts of water accumulated on the pitch, while reports from the stadium also showed flooding in the access tunnel and other areas of the venue.
The severe weather had not come completely without warning. Spain's State Meteorological Agency had issued an orange alert for heavy rain and storms in the province of Valencia. Strong wind and intense rainfall continued around the stadium as officials assessed whether the fixture could safely go ahead.
After the teams and match officials waited for a final decision, the postponement was announced at the stadium. A new date for the Levante–Athletic Club fixture has not yet been confirmed.
It is worth noting that both teams entered Matchday 6 after playing five league matches: Levante had collected five points, while Athletic Club had seven.
