Following their group D placement with Senegal, DR Congo, and Benin in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw, Botswana's head coach, Morena Ramoreboli, outlined his goals for the squad.
Ramoreboli, who led Botswana to qualifying and was named permanent head coach last month, talked about the difficulties that lie ahead.
"We are in a group with teams that have great experience. We know their history and how they’ve performed in previous AFCON tournaments," he said.
He emphasized that Botswana must give their best effort. "This is our second participation in the tournament. We have worked hard to qualify, and now we must double our efforts. We will fight, respect everyone, and give our best performance."
Ramoreboli’s appointment as Botswana’s permanent coach followed a successful interim period, leading the team to their first AFCON qualification since 2012.
Prior to this, he led Jwaneng Galaxy, who won two Botswana Premier League championships and had regional success in competitions such as COSAFA.
The coach's goal for the Zebras is to do more in the future. His objectives are to improve Botswana's FIFA rating, advance past the AFCON group stages, and have an influence in the forthcoming World Cup qualifying tournaments.
In a pivotal World Cup qualifying match in March, Botswana will play Algeria in their first test as a permanent squad under Ramoreboli.
