Recently, American right-wing politician Charlie Kirk, known for his controversial statements in various public spheres, was shot dead. Publicly supporting such a polarizing figure can have serious repercussions.
Details: Borussia Dortmund player Felix Nmecha openly expressed his condolences over Kirk's killing: at first, he wrote, "Rest with God. Such a sad day," but later edited his post to say, "May the Lord grant the Kirk family special grace in this time. Jesus is the true way to peace and love."
Soon after, Nmecha explained that he only intended to offer his condolences, stressing that violence is never a solution. The club, however, did not appreciate this gesture. At the moment, there is no information about any disciplinary action against the player.
Nevertheless, Borussia plans to hold internal discussions and speak with the player. Meanwhile, BILD reports that Nmecha's contract includes a clause allowing for fines over posts "contradicting the club's values."
Reminder: Earlier, Borussia extended the contract with head coach Niko Kovac.
