Blow for Chennai Super Kings as star batsman ruled out for the rest of the IPL season
Ayush Mhatre has suffered a serious injury during an IPL match, dealing a heavy blow to the Chennai Super Kings. The 18-year-old batsman tore his left hamstring during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, according to espncricinfo.
The incident occurred in the second over, with Mhatre in superb form, having scored 30 runs off just 12 balls before suddenly feeling sharp pain and calling for medical assistance. Despite the injury, he briefly returned to the field, but was clearly hampered and soon withdrew from the game. According to coach Mike Hussey, it appears to be a hamstring tear.
Obviously, it's a tear. We'll conduct further scans in the coming days, but unfortunately, it looks quite serious. Losing him will be a big blow for us; he was in excellent form," Hussey said after the match.
Mhatre has been CSK's top batsman this season, already amassing 201 runs at an impressive strike rate of 177.87. His absence could significantly impact the team's attacking prowess.
The timeline for his recovery remains uncertain, but injuries of this nature can require up to six months of rehabilitation depending on the severity.
